Mason arrived about 6 weeks early... you wouldn't know it by his size when he was born. He weighed 6lbs. 13 oz and was 19 inches long. He looked like a moose compared the other babies in the NICU - even the Well Baby Nursery. I would have to say that those 19 days in the NICU were some of the longest days of my life - okay the first 4 days that I didn't get to hold Mason were the longest! Holding your baby for the first time is such an incredibly emotional experience anyway that the first time you can hold him while he's hooked up to all sorts of beeping, flashing temperamental equipment you experience a whole new level of emotions! Our 19 days in the NICU were some of the most stressful, yet peaceful and reflective times that I have experienced. All I can say is THANK YOU to everyone who made it possible for Mike and I to spend time in the Nursery with Mason.
Now he is a year old already...and WOW is what comes to mind when thinking about the past year. Mason is a cruiser - he is the fastest crawler ever. I think that he has a built in radar for open doors, because everytime a door opens he is there (from clear across the house in another room), heading out the door! He loves to eat everything he can gets his chubby little hands on. And he is still pretty mellow, but he is coming into his own attitude - it could be from hanging out with his older sister, "the general". He loves to play with Hunter. Hunter is the only one who can truly make Mason belly laugh. Shelby is Mason's 2nd mom - she snuggles him and plays with him all the time. It seems like just yesterday that he was born, but at the same time it feels like we have ahd him forever. Happy Birthday Mason!
I added a few pictures of when Mason was in the NICU - they are in chronological order.

Happy Birthday to our dear sweet little Mason, I love You
Grandma
I remember being in the nicu with my twins. Wow, what an experience. It's crazy. I can't believe that your Mason is one. Wow, that went fast (for me anyway).
Boy, he has sure come a long way! Looking at him today you would never know he got off to a rough start.
He is so cute.
I know could relate with everything you are talking about with the NICU experience. I didn't realize he was in there that long. He sure is a cutie!! I love their first birthday. Kind of bittersweet.
How fun and reflective are first birthdays!
